Elevated water temperatures in summer and fall can increase the likelihood of algae blooms by stimulating algae growth. Syracuse Water Department had used copper sulfate to mitigate those algae problems, but new ultrasonic technology showed promise in addressing the issue and reducing the departments reliance on chemicals that also had become a costly operating expense.
